PROGRAM OF THE MAINLAND TOUR «HONDURAS NATURE»

DAY 1, SAN PEDRO SULA

Arrival in San Pedro Sula and transfer to your city hotel.

DAY 2, SAN PEDRO SULA - COPÁN RUINAS

After breakfast, we visit the Guamilito market in San Pedro Sula. Here you will find fruits, vegetables, spices and also countless handicrafts made of wood, leather and other materials. Afterwards, enjoy the entertaining 3-hour drive to Copán Ruinas. Upon arrival, we will visit the legendary Copán Archaeological Park, which consists of two main sites: the main ruins and the tombs. Experience the unique and world famous staircase with 63 steps and over 2,500 hieroglyphs, the longest Mayan text discovered to date. The Sepulturas are a place of residence and burial of the Maya nobles. Towards evening you will have enough time to explore the picturesque town.

DAY 3, COPÁN RUINAS - LAGO YOJOA / CERRO AZUL MEAMBAR NATIONAL PARK

Our journey continues on a scenic drive to Lake Yojoa. The region around the largest inland lake of Honduras is rich in different habitats of diverse animals. It is home or temporary residence to over 300 species of migratory birds. We continue to the most beautiful waterfall in Honduras; the Pulhapanzak, which in 1965 served Walt Disney on his journey through Honduras as inspiration and basis for the world-famous film 'The Jungle Book'. With a drop of about 140 feet / 43 meters it is only 30 feet / 9 meters less high than the Niagara Falls, Due to various artifacts around the waterfall it is believed that this was an important ceremonial center of the ancient Mayans. Enjoy the unique beauty that the Rio Lindo has carved into a tropical canyon. Afterwards, continue to the visitor lodge in Cerro Azul Meambar National Park.

DAY 4, CERRO AZUL MEAMBAR NATIONAL PARK

Experience breathtaking views in the untouched mountain rainforests. At altitudes from 415 to 2080 m you will discover Coffee Plantations, pine forests, cloud forests and rare Elfforests in addition to a bizarre ecosystem of crippled oaks covered with moss and lichens. Hike according to your experience and condition and take a refreshing bath under a crystal clear waterfall.

DAY 5, CERRO AZUL MEAMBAR NATIONAL PARK - VALLE CANGREJAL

After breakfast we will continue our journey towards the Caribbean coast. On the way we will visit a cacao plantation near Lake Yojoa. As a true chocolate fan, would you like to know how cacao and chocolate products are made? Let yourself be enchanted by the wonderful cacao fruit with its seeds, from which world-famous products are made. For example, the cocoa for a famous Swiss chocolate comes directly from Honduras. Guided tour on the plantation and, if possible, enjoyment of freshly prepared cacao. Afterwards continue to La Ceiba to the lodge.

DAY 6, VALLE CANGREJAL

Today you can relax in the middle of the beautiful Pico Bonito National Park with a good book in a hammock or take part in an optional activity such as hiking, river rafting, horse riding, cycling and much more.

DAY 7, VALLE CANGREJAL - CUERO Y SALADO NATIONAL PARK - LA CEIBA - BAY ISLANDS

Early transfer to La Unión. Here we exchange our vehicle for a "burra" (also donkey, a train car operated by humans), which takes us to the visitor center of the Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge. There we change to a boat that will take us through the branching mangrove labyrinth of the Salado River to the lagoon on the Caribbean Sea beach. Meanwhile we observe the colorful flora and fauna that the national park has to offer, monkeys, rare birds and with a little luck crocodiles and manatees are just a few examples of what can be sighted. In the afternoon we will return to La Unión the same way and transfer in time to La Ceiba to the ferry terminal or to the local airport for your onward journey by ferry or flight to the Bay Islands; Roatán, Utila or Guanaja.
