MAINLAND TOUR «COMBI EL SALVADOR & HONDURAS» - 9 DAYS / 8 NIGHTS

Experience awesome Colonial Towns, beautiful Lakes with countless species of birds, mysterious Mayan Ruins and pure Nature in untouched rain forests on this tour through two impressive countries. You will spend 8 nights in different middle class hotels in picturesque towns, at a lake and in a lodge in the middle of a beautiful rain and cloud forest.

PROGRAM OF THE MAINLAND TOUR «COMBI EL SALVADOR & HONDURAS»

DAY 1, SAN SALVADOR

Arrival in San Salvador and transfer to your city hotel.

DAY 2, SAN SALVADOR - JOYA DE CERÉN - SUCHITOTO

We start our trip with a city tour in San Salvador. Among other important monuments we also visit the National Palace and the National Museum of Anthropology. This museum houses an impressive collection of pre Colombian antiquities from the Pre classic era (1500 BC-250 AD). Later we leave the capital towards Joya de Ceren. This archaeological site, which is also called the Salvadorian's Pompei was inscribed in the UNESCO World heritage list in 1993 because of the completeness of the evidence that it provides of everyday life in a Mesoamerican farming community of the 6th century. The pre Hispanic farming community was buried under a volcanic eruption in AD 590. The ash preserved the personal belongings of the inhabitants until today. Afterwards we continue to Suchitoto where we will stay one night.

DAY 3, SUCHITOTO

Today we visit the enchanting city of Suchitoto, a Colonial Style Town, also known as the Place of Flower Bird for its name in Nahuatl. Suchitoto offers the experience of an ancient city with colonial architecture that seems like the time has stopped. Visit its beautiful cobbled streets, art galleries, and crafts. One of the main attractions of the city is the famous Santa Lucia Church built in 1853. In the afternoon we will take a boat tour on Suchitlán Lake, the largest artificial lake in the country. Its natural scenic beauty makes it an ideal destination to enjoy an artisan boat ride with one of the local boaters. During the boat ride you will be able to visit the different islands that surround the lake, home of migratory birds and native animals.

DAY 4, SUCHITOTO - TAZUMAL - APANECA (RUTA DE LAS FLORES)

Leaving Suchitoto on our way to Apaneca, we will visit the Mayan ruins of Tazumal, which are considered to be the most important and best preserved in the country. Highlight of this excavation site is a life size, stone carved sculpture of the Nahua-God. Apaneca is in the important coffee growing area of El Salvador. The name means river of the windy and the area is known for its beautiful landscape.

DAY 5, APANECA - SANTA ANA (RUTA DE LAS FLORES) - COPÁN RUINAS (HONDURAS)

In the morning we leave Apaneca towards Santa Ana, one of the most important cities in El Salvador from the so-called golden age of coffee, and afterwards a very prosperous town. We will take a tour, visiting the Theatre, the National Palace and the towns beautiful Cathedral, which was designed in the Gothic style in contrast to the Spanish Colonial style like the most of the churches of El Salvador and the rest of Latin America. In the afternoon we will continue and cross the boarder to Honduras where we will end in the late afternoon in the town of Copan Ruinas.

DAY 6, COPÁN RUINAS

Today we visit the legendary archeological park of Copán ruins where you can learn about the world famous 63 step staircase with over 2500 masterfully carved hieroglyphs. To date it is the longest Maya text discovered. Afterwards there will be time for sightseeing and dining in the picturesque town of Copán.

DAY 7, COPÁN RUINAS - CERRO AZUL MEAMBAR NATIONAL PARK

Today's scenic drive will take you to the largest natural lake in Honduras; Lago Yojoa. The region around the lake is rich in different habitats of diverse animals. It is home or temporary residence to over 300 species of migratory birds. We continue to the most beautiful waterfall in Honduras; the Pulhapanzak, which in 1965 served Walt Disney on his journey through Honduras as inspiration and basis for the world-famous film 'The Jungle Book'. With a drop of about 140 feet / 43 meters it is only 30 feet / 9 meters less high than the Niagara Falls, Due to various artifacts around the waterfall it is believed that this was an important ceremonial center of the ancient Mayans. Enjoy the unique beauty that the Rio Lindo has carved into a tropical canyon. Afterwards, continue to the visitor lodge in Cerro Azul Meambar National Park.

DAY 8, CERRO AZUL MEAMBAR NATIONAL PARK

The visitor's centre is located at 850m elavation at the entrance to the national park and the unspoiled rainforest. Experience breathtaking views in the untouched mountain rainforests. At altitudes from 850 to 2080 m you will discover Coffee Plantations, pine forests, cloud forests and rare Elfforests in addition to a bizarre ecosystem of crippled oaks covered with moss and lichens. Hike according to your experience and condition and take a refreshing bath under a crystal clear waterfall.

DAY 9, CERRO AZUL MEAMBAR NATIONAL PARK - SAN PEDRO SULA

After breakfast, we drive to San Pedro Sula on time for your international departure and/or combined tour or extension to the Bay Islands for your beach, snorkel or diving adventure.
